Welcome Message

It is with great pleasure and satisfaction that we invite you to attend the 31st ESCPB Congress, to be held by CIIMAR, in Porto, Portugal, between the 9-12th of September 2018.

This edition of the congress will happen under the broad theme: "Shifting Biological Landscapes: from molecules to mechanisms". We expect a vibrant atmosphere, covering multiple aspects and innovative approaches in the broad field of Comparative Physiology and Biochemistry, and thus your presence will surely be a key contribution.

The conference will provide an ideal platform to present, discuss and implement state-of-art ideas and approaches in Comparative Physiology and Biochemistry, while anticipating future directions. An attractive scientific program encompassing various different scientific sessions will be developed over 4 days.

The scientific topics will cover a broad range of themes including:

  • From Small Molecules to Big Problems: Nanomaterials, Microplastics and Compounds of Emerging Concern
  • Endocrine Disruptors
  • Comparative Physiology Under the Omics Revolution
  • Comparative Physiology and Biomarkers
  • Lipid Homeostasis and Obesogens
  • Comparative Physiology and Aquaculture
  • Oceans & Human Health
  • Comparative Physiology and Bioremediation
  • Life Under Pressure: Physiological and Toxicological Implications
  • Climate Changes and Anthropogenic Stressors

We warmly welcome you to Porto, in the northern region of Portugal, a UNESCO world heritage city, marked by the warmth of its people and the “medieval” Ribeira site. The city of Siza Vieira and Souto Moura (Pritzker Architecture Prizes), of Casa da Música designed by the world-famous Rem Koolhaas, Serralves a world class Contemporary Art museum and the Biodiversity Gallery. You will enjoy the Douro river scenery, excellent transport systems and housing facilities, traditional and innovative restaurants (do try the local dish “francesinha”!) and the vibrant night life.

Miguel Santos and Filipe Castro

The studies presented at the 31st ESCPB Congress will be published on "CBP Special Issues: Research publications, reviews, methods papers, and perspectives".

Manuscripts must be submitted by the 30th November 2018.
